The Talbot Hotel

The Talbot Hotel is a historic coaching inn in the Northamptonshire market town of Oundle. Rebuilt in 1626 using stone from nearby Fotheringhay Castle, it is closely associated with Mary, Queen of Scots: an oak staircase inside the hotel is traditionally said to be the one she descended before her execution at Fotheringhay in 1587. The inn later flourished as a coaching stop and retains timber-framed wings, flagstone floors and other period features. Today it has 34 individually styled bedrooms, a restaurant, bar and courtyard garden, combining its Tudor character with modern comforts in the heart of Oundle.
